303 Riesling

They say good things come to those who wait — and this wine is living proof.

This single vineyard Riesling comes from one of the oldest vineyards in the Eden Valley and holds a special place in my heart. I grew up watching these gnarled old vines, with their tiny berries and small bunches, being picked, crushed, and fermented into vibrant, flavoursome wine at Rockford. Decades later, I feel incredibly proud to play a part in continuing the history of this remarkable vineyard.

The vineyard has always produced the classic mineral and honeysuckle characters the Eden Valley is known for, along with a fuller fruit flavour — a result of its age and dry-grown nature. That richness is something I’ve always missed in many modern Rieslings, which I find are often driven by intense acidity to the point of becoming sharp and aggressive — frankly, hard to drink.

This wine, by contrast, has a softer, more generous texture — plush and full-flavoured, yet still carrying a clean, refreshing acidity that will allow it to age gracefully for at least five to ten years.

I’ve dedicated this wine to the rock of my family, Pam. Without her, my father’s and my own life would be very different. She has always been there, supporting us and holding the family together through the hardest of times — never asking for praise or recognition.

So, the next time you open a Rockford or Travis Earth, raise a glass to Pam. Because if she hadn’t come into our lives, there’s every chance that bottle in front of you wouldn’t exist.
