Backbone Shiraz

2021

“When we were blending and bottling the 21 Barossa (brown label shiraz) we made a decision to keep some of the free run separate. Firstly, it enabled us to make a fresher style shiraz- ready to drink a year earlier than our usual four year philosophy for the brown label range, but also in doing that, it also makes our Barossa Brown Label 21 wine better- a more concentrated, more structured wine. From such a great vintage this will give us that holy grail of a great drink when we release it, but can also live in cellar forever!”

The Backbone represents all the small, great grape growers of the Barossa- who are the life and spirit of great Barossa wines.

In the warmer weather, because it is free run juice, it can be slightly chilled… and the tannins don’t stick out they keep that soft/ fuzzy background action and the fruit and spice continue to rule!

Rose petals, cassis and liquorice waft from the glass, the free run juices flow easily across the palate with spiced berries and dusty chocolate tannins lured along by a bubbling stream of fresh, clean lingering acid.

This soft, drinkable, balanced wine can be slightly chilled and still those soft tannins play very nice!

Drink now or in the next 8 years.
