The 2022 Backbone is crafted primarily from free-run juice, resulting in a fresher, more vibrant style of Shiraz. Designed to be enjoyed earlier, this wine is released ahead of our typical four-year aging philosophy seen in the Brown Label range.
By diverting the free-run juice into Backbone, we’ve created not only an approachable, early-drinking Shiraz – but also a more concentrated and structured 2022 Barossa Brown Label wine. Each wine benefits from the other.
Backbone honours the small, passionate grape growers of the Barossa – true custodians of the region and the driving force behind its greatest wines.
Aromas of rose petals, cassis and liquorice rise from the glass. On the palate, spiced berries and dusty chocolate tannins glide effortlessly, carried by a stream of fresh, clean, lingering acidity.
This soft, delicious wine is perfect to drink now but will also reward cellaring for 8+ years.
